Cortona

Saturday

Rise cheerful - look forward to the day - a message - the Dove has flown away - the tears flow - a life well lived - we well miss you Terri Mary.

Friends make the day easier - we venture to Cortona  - home to Etruscan - then Roman - then Tuscan.

Saturday morning - market day - we should know better - the shoppers Command the tourist parking places - search - search - eventually decide to drop the girls at the town gates - park the hire cars at the cemetery at the foot of hill - a long steep climb to join the others .

The others spend hours in the Museum d'Academy - relics of all things etruscan - they all enjoy - they all enthuse.

I wander the town - a little pensive - stop -  another cup of Italian chocolate - I could die of chocolate poisoning if I spent too long here in Cortona - we sit outside the local wine store - we are drawn in  by an extravagant window display - did we buy more local wine? - no! - we buy a Chianti Classico cycling top - it will replace a headache as our reminder of the glasses of Chianti Classico that we have consumed since arriving at our Tuscan abode.

The others appear from their museum sojourn - we dine - time to head back - the girls are not done with the Etruscans yet - they want to go to a dig site on the way home - they are tired - they decide we should bring the cars to them rather than them walking to the cars - we are dispatched to coach the hire car steeds in through the narrow gate of the walled town  - up the narrow, narrow, narrow cobbled lanes - please Don Tom  get this right! - you  have to be kidding? - do you really want me to turn right now? - I cannot turn! - it is too narrow - turn or else! - back - turn - forward - turn - back - turn - forward - down the narrow lane - Don Tom stops talking to me - the chasm in which I have placed him has isolated him from his support system  - he waits for  a satelite to pass overhead - decides he is ready to talk to me again - my blood pressure drops slightly - onward - narrow - narrow - worry - worry - turn - turn - at last - there they are - they get into the cars - they have no idea what we have been through.

The dig site is duly discovered and explored.

We turn to home - a Royal fire - a Royal wine service - sit in front of the fire and write .
